UZCARD or HUMO: which to pick, and whether you need to

Both systems are national, both settle in soum and both work only inside Uzbekistan. Neither will pay a foreign website or work on a trip abroad: that needs an international card.

Domestic acceptance is broad for both. The vast majority of merchants run a terminal that takes either — which is precisely why the "which is better" question matters far less for everyday spending than it seems.

The difference a cardholder feels almost always comes from the bank and the specific product rather than the system: maintenance cost, cashback and its categories, withdrawal and transfer limits, app quality, support speed. Two cards on the same system at different banks can differ more than cards on different systems at the same bank.

The second source of difference is specific services and partner programmes tied to one system. Check that against your own pattern: if you regularly pay somewhere specific or use a particular service, find out what it accepts and where the loyalty programme applies.

The practical reason is simple: a terminal or a particular transaction sometimes fails on one system, and the second card solves it on the spot. That insurance usually costs little, especially if the second card has no maintenance fee.

A sensible setup for most people: one national card as the primary for domestic spending, a second national card as backup, and an international card for online and travel. And choose on the card’s terms, not on the system.
